A Sneaky Peek...

Been very busy lately on the run up to Christmas, yes I know it's only October but most orders need to be done and to the lab by December so this means manic panic from September onwards.

Last Saturday I did a hair and make-up shoot for Nina Wren, as usual she has no idea what she wants background and lighting wise and just says "do whatever you think".

I showed her a piccy of my partners head in front of a new glitzy background I'd been panning for an age and only just got around to creating, with 99% help from my mother, the queen of sewing!

She really liked it so we decided to ban cream and ivory backgrounds from this bridal hair and make-up shoot and go all out luxurious Hollywood Glamour.

Becky who was the model for the day was in fact a bride that Nina had styled on her big day and thought perfect for the job. She looks fab and thank you Becky for being so brilliant.

Now because the photos are for Nina's article in Cheshire Bride Magazine 2012, it doesn't come out until January next year and she has banned me (nice I know) from using all but a few of the shots. So here is a little peek of the shoot and what is to come.

Howdy Folks! Hope you're all having a fabulous bank holiday weekend.

It's share time again. Today I'd like to show you Anna's photos. She came for a shoot a few weeks ago to have promotional shots taken for her website.

She had the VIP shoot covering 6 different sets and we had a ball with the variations of styling, posing, lingerie and gorgeous jewellery selection she brought.

As usual the bed was on the list (it's a big favourite with my clients but it does look spectacular the way we light it so can you blame them?), the shabby chic mirror with the lace paper, vintage gold dressing table set, the AMAZING consort table with marble top, black and gold chaise with rough gold wall and finally the tyre set.

For the tyres Anna had a great idea. She wanted to have a sponge and lots of bubbles so out came the soapy liquid, sponge and what followed was lots and lots of soaping up, suds being splattered all over her, the walls and tyres. It was so much fun.

I'd like to thank Anna for letting me feature the shots and for being so a great sport and bringing something unique to her shoot.

Howdy from Miss Boudoir® HQ! I'd like to share some more beautiful shots with you this sunny afternoon.

Mrs W came for her boudoir photo shoot at our Woodend Studio back in March and had been treated to the shoot by her husband (who was very excited at the idea).

They both arrived at the studio and seriously, what a lovely couple. Really really nice people and I instantly knew we'd have a brilliant shoot full of fun. And We did!

Mrs W was naturally great at doing all the poses I demonstrated, great facial expressions and wow, what a stunning figure! Yes I am completely jealous!

The lingerie she brought suited her and our boudoir sets perfectly. I love bodies, I really think they are flattering yet very sensual.

For one outfit she wanted something a bit more showy, so I had a look in the lingerie area and we decided on a waist coat, sequinned high waist hot pants and top hat. It looks amazing and she even loaned the outfit for a Chicago themed party.

Both Mrs & Mrs W loved the photos and will be coming back for a shoot at our new Copley Studio. I look throughly forward to seeing them both again and I'd like to thank them for letting me feature these images.

Hello all. I've been so busy lately with shoots, articles, updates, new marketing material and so on that I've put off long enough sharing a number of clients photos with you (permission given of course).

The lovely Mrs S below had a shoot with us a fair few months back now to create an album for her husbands 60th. She brought her sister along for company so we had two fabulous women to giggle with all day and what fun they were too!

The styling requested was to be smokey, defined and with a hint of cabaret in there. Very Liza Minnelli and she pulled it off perfectly.

I can't being to tell you how brilliant Mrs S was at playing the part, she was confident, filled with fun, completely down to earth and just let herself have a great time.

I hope you like the below photos we created of this amazing lady, proving that you don't have to be in your 20's or 30's to look absolutely stunning.

Steampunk Inspired Shoot

Since March I have been planning a bridal shoot inspired by Steampunk and general madness. I really wanted to do something different, not the usual bridal white dress, nice pretty hair and make-up but completely and I mean completely different to the norm. I'm a mega fan of the Victorian era, dark quirkiness and anything fairytale so Steampunk seemed the perfect direction.

The idea was to cover outfit, flowers, styling, cake and anything else bridal I could fit into it. Nina Wren from Bridal hair & Tiaras and Mat from Red Floral Architecture, were instantly up for it being in the wedding industry and loving the chance to show some extraordinary creativity. Emmylou Kelly from Lily Bud Cupcakes offered to make the cake and a stunning cake it was (and she made us some delicious cupcakes for the shoot, above)!

Firstly I needed an outfit and after searching for suitable attire, I came across the gothic Lolita style that is very big in Japan after a few hints from my friend Mr. J West. Within minutes or searching I found the perfect items on a website, however there were so many fabulous outfits, choosing was extremely difficult. I selected 2 outfits, red and black for the daytime and a pure white ensemble for the "wedding night". All items had to be custom made to the required size and took 4 weeks. I really couldn't wait to get them.

In the meantime I went sourcing the other bits for the outfit like jewellery, garter, shoes etc. I bought cogs and old watch parts to be incorporated into the hair styling, cog earring, the classic goggles and many other objects of use. I had a fair few items in my prop collection already like the large wigs, Victorian style boots, tights, knee socks and decorations so that definitely helped.

Not only was there the task of sorting the models look out from head to toe, I had to try get the setting right without breaking the bank on shinny copper and brass pipes or borrowing some metal from a church roof ;o). I visualised decadent, old, decay but inviting, warm and quirky. I searched the Mill my studio is in and the top floor was open featuring old walls with paint peeling off, wood floor, 200 year old dust and with permission I made me scene. I purchased some Chessboard/Harlequin lino and laid it over the wood floor, it instantly looked amazing. Finally I added a massive clock I got off eBay (biggest I could find) and got down to lighting it.

I didn't want to go safe with the lighting, quite the opposite. It needed to be direct onto the face and body but with warm glow like there was an oil lamp on somewhere in the room.

The day of the shoot arrived, 23rd May and it was hot, manic and there was wig hair everywhere! We all had such fun though and Paula the Model had the patience of a saint considering how heavy the hair do was by the end of the first set of styling. The first hair and make-up style took about 3 hours I think, time seemed to fly by so fast while I watched the hair growing taller and wider thanks to Nina and Mat.

We shot the wedding day look and then proceeded to work on the wedding night. Moving slightly softer in look at this point, we added a hint of melanchollie to the mood but with a serious dose of Tim Burtonesque!

The Results - Part 1

Shiny New Boudoir Studio

Well we finally did it!! 26 months on, the second Miss Boudoir studio is finally open and hosting many fabulous shoots!

Originally taken on back in March 2009, the studio was set to open in the summer of 2009 but due to many unforeseen problems with building, electrics and lack of time, the opening date fell further and further into the future.

Copley studio is based in Stalybrige, Cheshire was to be a bigger replacement for my Woodend Studio. But our clients and we love Woodend so much that it's become a part of the team and very much a second home for us. Therefore we have two studios, both in Greater Manchester and only 3 miles apart with Woodend falling into the county of Lancashire and Copley into Cheshire.

Each of the studios offers different photographic sets, styles and atmosphere. I fully designed both studios to meet the needs of my clients and reflect my love of the vintage style of boudoir and glamour photography.

Naturally Copley being my second studio, it was going to be a step up in every way from my first. I wanted a greater opulence (quite hard seeing as the Woodend is just beautiful), a continental edge to the decor to be different from the now masses of samey "vintage style" of boudoir photographers and another studio that has my personality stamped all over it.

I had ideas for every nook and cranny of my new empty building, what rooms would be built where, the purpose of those rooms, right down to the wallpaper colour and the reflected wallpaper colour if I was using mirrors.

I could picture it in my head, mentally walk around it and I loved what my mind was creating. I don't think anything has turned out different apart from the fabulous pink wingback chairs I have in my waiting/seating area, they should have been a black leather chesterfield but I decided against in the end.

The dressing area is Marilyn Monroe inspired and filled floor to ceiling with lingerie, shoes, props, knick knacks, a dressing table, mirror and screens. It's like a dressing up room from heaven!

Again, this studio like my first was to be a world away from the everyday, feel like you've gone through a door back in time to a private luxurious parlour filled with beautiful gilt furniture in very opulent settings, silky bed sheets on a fabulous Rococo bed, real gold and crystal chandeliers, antiques including 18th century decanters and scent bottles.

Along the same lines is the styling room; I designed it to have a film star theme featuring images of the silver screen stars in the decor, stripes in a classic black and white and the trademark styling room mirror bulbs.

All in all, it is a fabulous studio helping us offer a fabulous experience from the moment you walk in the door, to the first steps back out into the world as a liberated woman!

I look forward to meeting, photographing and helping as many women as possible in my new studio and obviously the giggles had in the meantime.

Perfect for all those summer brides or people wanting a taste of the boudoir and specifically held on Crunchy Day so you can make the most of the styling for a Friday night out!

Pin-up Photography - there has been a lot of Pin-up stuff going on lately, shoots, prop buying, set building etc. I had 4 bales of straw delivered for the land girl scene and carting them up 11 flights of stairs and along corridors wasn't a pleasant job, needless to say the trail of straw that I swept up wasn't either!

After 2 hours of scene building, I perfected it and below is the result!

After that came music scene with a gramophone all the way from america, a bunch of records

and some vanity cases for added effect.

Then cupcakes and baking!

A few months ago I built a beach scene and below are some of the shots along with some Call Girl shots from the same shoot (was a good full on play day!)

Pin Up (ooooo)!

Pin Up! Yes, I’m doing more of it and about time! I’m offering a new pin up package to my clients so I’ve been buying props and lingerie all week ready for my test shoots. I’m so excited that I can’t see straight for ideas! Gaaaa it’s annoying because I’ve become a scatter brain! So this leads me onto my next bit of exciting chat.

Casting Call - I need some lovely ladies who are interested in pin up, whether they be models, dancers, burlesque entertainers or plain old ordinary folk like me to be dolled up, dressed up and popped onto some sets that I’ll be building in classic pin up themes.

Now I’ve got a very good idea in my mind of the image I am looking to achieve for each scene. So I am interested in bright red hair, pale blonde and black/brown. If coloured hair the roots need to be minimal. No fake tan please as that is the opposite of what I am going for. I want naturally pale, mid or dark skins, just no fakers.

I have a selection of lingerie and outfits to use in sizes 8-14 at present but would encourage people to apply who already have a variety of outfits, shoes and bits in this style.

Your personality would need to be bubbly, outgoing and cheeky to match the look and definitely not camera shy. A knowledge of pin up poses, the ability to pose and act the part essential and definitely be able to have a laugh!

The participants will be happy for the images to be used on my website, online advertising, print advertising, promotion and on merchandise e.g. limited edition posters etc.

Ladies will need to be comfortable in lingerie/swimsuit and be happy to have the stylist and a male assistant/photographer in training present at the photo shoot.

The shoots will be taking place over the coming months and dates will be arranged to suit the selected ladies schedules, the stylists and myself.

In return for the chosen ladies services, they will receive:-

Hair and make-up professionally done in a style to suit the theme
Photo shoot on the set chosen for their saucy look
4 fully retouched images of their choice provided on disc for personal and promotional use OR 4 12x8” prints

A Very Belated Happy New Year

Well a Happy New Year to you all and I hope you had a very good and festive Christmas!

Gosh it seems so far away now and to me it feels like it was last week!

The snow!! That lovely crisp, delicately beautiful snow we had… what a pain! All my early-mid Jan shoots had to be rescheduled for later in Jan because no one could move and it’s not like my clients come from down the road and could get their hike on.

Flights were cancelled, peoples cars were frozen to the road, trains were their usual self (utterly useless) and the country became a large un-gritted ice skating rink!

Personally, I was in my element! I love snow and was at the window checking for more every 30 mins for 2 weeks!

From a business point of view, it was hellish! A backlog of shoots to get through and client deadlines to meet, even though I was two weeks down in time and had more than double the shoots I can cope with!

To top it off, getting prints, albums and products back from labs was awful due to the couriers being grounded! And the same goes for shipping those very products out to the clients. Somehow I managed it and no deadlines were missed!

On to the new studio… the walls have been rescued from the dead, they are plastered and all the lighting is in bar 2 chandeliers. I am yet to decide which I want and it’s a hard decision.

I’ve got painting, wallpapering, set building to do, reclaimed flooring, skirting board, coving along with door frames to install and drapes/curtains to sort. After that it’s furniture buying and the finishing touches!

I'm doing everything I can to get it moving and the troops are out in force for the last two weeks in Feb! Wish me luck!!!

Winter Greetings From Icy Cold Cheshire!

Lets start with a "howdy" and big apologies for the mammoth 5 month gap since my last post.

Winter for me is the best time of year, I love the idea of snow (we get a little here) and the cold air and being toasty, all wrapped up in the winter woollies!

Relocation

I’ve been a very busy girl over summer/autumn and done nothing but work, work and move house since July.

I left Lancashire for Cheshire at the end of August (only 3 miles down the road, I lived on the boundary of 4 counties), which was complete upheaval and I still haven’t finished moving!

New Boudoir Studio

As some of you will know, I closed on the 30th October to start and hopefully finish off my new studio. I have ONLY just finished off the mountain of Christmas orders but have done a good deal of work on the studio in the meantime.

Below are a few piccies of how it looked in March 2009.

We’ve got off to a great start; my mum has painted so much wall space it’s unbelievable.

The studio is very different to my current, it’s much larger with absolutely no interior walls to use for photographing against, only the exterior walls and thirteen windows!!! Because of this I decided to have interior a lounge created and an “X” for maximum wall space and an open plan feel in half of it.

The builders did this part of the renovation for me as it was such a huge project for myself and parents who work full time that it would have taken us months! However, I wish I had done it myself because it’s not without it’s problems. I think when you do something like this you want it perfect and will do your best to get that and put time, effort and much love into it. When you hire someone, it’s not always the same and I think I just picked the wrong people for the job.
Lets just say my walls aren’t the straightest and it’s taken me weeks of sanding, filling, straightening beams, plaining and more sanding. I rescued the hodgepodged job as much as possible and the double layers of insulating, backing paper have been applied to all surfaces ready for wallpapering.

The floor has been sanded, it was a very tedious unlike the previous two rooms as this floor was covered in industrial floor paint and the wood is very hard so it was much tougher to sand.

The plan for this floor isn’t to restore it back to the natural wood because there is just too much paint on it, my aim is to smooth it off a little and then paint it piano black with a silver sparkly gloss finish which will catch the light when you walk.

The “X” has been fully wallpapered now and there are 5 sets in that area and a wardrobe/dressing room that will be full of retro and vintage props and lingerie. Finally all the collecting of goodies over the past year will finally be taken out of storage put on display and hung up for all to use.

I have started to put up the blinds for the thirteen windows; beautiful chunky black Venetian blinds and they cost a bomb! BUT I’ve run into trouble, one fell off and smashed due to the curvature of the windows. So I need to cut a shed load of wood wedges to secure them properly and consult the DIY dad when he gets a night off work.

The electrician has been in and done all he can until my false ceiling is being installed next Tuesday. I can’t wait, I wanted to have a gallery feel to my corridors with contemporary spot lights and beautiful images in classy black frames between the windows and the new ceiling is just going to finish it off perfectly.

What else has been going on… oh yes the sink! I have a lovely Victorian sink installed but I decided recently that it’s in the way and doesn’t look right anymore, so I have a mini kitchen area now at the back of my studio, looks very good and hopefully will be plumbed in within 2 weeks.

Once the sink/kitchen is sorted, blinds are up and the ceiling is installed I can get onto the final parts of decorating, painting the floor, installing the skirting board and architraving, making the fabric ceiling for the lounge and installing a nice old reclaimed wood floor in the lounge and styling room.

I hope to be done for January but I’ve been solo working on it for the past 2 weeks because all my helpers have been busy with their own work and lives, but I’m doing my best and will push on as fast as possible!

I will keep you updated as I go with possibly a few more photos although I don't want to spoil the surprise!!

Yes, yes it has actually happened! I have finally got around to updating my boudoir and vintage glamour galleries!

I’d like to say a HUUUUGE “thank you” to all my wonderful clients who have said “yes” to featuring on my website. I am totally overwhelmed at the responses I got back from every single client I asked and I’m so proud that you all love your images so much that you’re happy to appear online and in your smalls for little me!!

Yup, as mentioned in my previous post "Untitled" but I do admit, I got the name of the mag wrong, it's Photo Pro Magazine, not DP Pro Magazine - meh, you can see the similarity!

Anyway, the article is all about the best photographers sharing their expertise and answering a specific question. The question put to me was:-

"I want to offer tasteful boudoir photography as part of my service: what’s the best way for me to set up something like this?"

Quite a hard question really as there are so many different paths to choose from and it's definitely not a short answer. So if you fancy having a look, go snaffle the December issue of Photo Pro Magazine!

Not much else to report apart from I have another room (!!!) it's supposed to be prop storage but I already have some very glitzy burlesque sets planned in my mind. I can't help it, if there's space to be had then I'll make it into something dazzling!

I've been working flat out for months now so I've planned some time off later in December which is when I'll make a start on the new sets.

Must dash, the coffee pot is almost empty and I need a refill!

Updates Galore

So it’s been a while, the last time I wrote was on a lobby computer in Norway… well I’m back and even more tired than before I went away! Working for yourself and going on a holiday is like taking a three week step backwards!

Been hard at work and trying to update site with new content over the past few weeks and I have some good news, I’ve managed it (80% anyway).

The Team page - updated, The Regency Lounge page – added and with a slide show, The Making Of the Regency Lounge I’m working on tonight and tomorrow and the Boudoir Belle’s party Page is under construction. There are more updates but nothing anyone will notice, all behind the scenes stuff. The final update is my boudoir galleries, they’re long overdue and I have so many clients who have jumped at the chance of featuring, so I just need to find a window of time to get them done!

In the meantime, (if time allows) have a peek at the new and updated pages and hopefully you’ll like the Regency Lounge and all that has been done to it.

Mill Collapses

Nothing at all to do with my photography etc but I'm still in shock at these pictures and needed to post them.

This is Carrhill Mill which is just in front of Woodend Mill that my studio is in (visible in the first photo on the right with the chimney). It's not quite as old as the 2 Woodend Mills but old enough. Part of it collapsed on Saturday night which is the same section that bizzarely collapsed on Christmas Day back in the year 1900.

Anyway, there you have it before I run off to my studio!

Good news, good news - in the past 2 weeks I have somehow managed to work, sleep a little and continue with my room with such efficiency that it is nearly done. I have two main things left to do – wallpaper and varnish the floor plus a couple of niggly things like fit a heavy duty curtain rail and add some final finishing touches.

I’ve not given much away about my plans and progress so far as I thought it may be nice to simply put all the photos up when it’s done for total impact… but, I’ll at least mention a few things –

My hair and make-up room/dressing room really is fab! I wanted to maximise the size of the room with mirrors so that’s exactly what I have done.

I decided to tile an entire wall with mirror tiles and I’ll say now that I HATE mirror tiles and don’t recommend it to anyone!! They inflicted constant hassle, anger, pain, continuous shattering and then assaulted my hands and arms by embedding a few hundred shards of themselves in me. I endured, I struggled on and can happily say, I’d do it all again because it looks brilliant!

My hands and arms really have had a rough ride over the past few weeks, they are not ladylike or presentable anymore, (I would have taken a picture but the tips of my fingers were so swollen and sore that I kept their use to a minority due to pain) they tell a story of hard work, stress, lack of concentration *points to a blood blister and 4 split fingers* “oh that’s where I trapped my skin in the mastic gun and that’s where the skin split on my fingers from continued cementing that needed to be smoothed!” I’d like to point out that gloves were not an option for this task or the majority that have made my hands like 2 withered, worn pieces of scarred sandpaper!

I have four new wallpapers for the lounge, one for my current studio and it’s going to be a mega job due to how much wall space I’ve got to cover with backing paper and then the wallpapers! I’ll be calling in the troops to help with this one seems as though I had a fight with the backing paper the other day and almost pasted myself to the floor!

My fabric ceiling is up, so are the 3 large chandeliers and I must admit, they look totally stunning!

98% of my new furniture has arrived for the lounge and I can’t wait to dress the room with it. All my make-up room furniture is in, had that for a while now and is home to a few dust colonies!

I am officially the Queen of Green! I have spent what is the equivalent to a 7 day, 5* all-inclusive holiday in Rhodes on energy bulbs (I have SO many lights in there, the chandeliers are major culprits), I’m either totally mad or totally mad, or maybe I’m just doing my bit!! If I include the wallpapers, tiles and make-up room furniture then it’d be a 28 day cruise around Canada and Alaska on the P&O Aurora!

Speaking of holidays and oh so needed getaway’s, I was hoping this year would see my first holiday in 4 years but I seriously doubt that now – my luxury boudoir studio and Regency Lounge, really is luxury with a hefty price tag, BUT I already told myself “If I’m going to do it, then I’m going to do it properly!!!!”

Now I’ll take my broke (sniffle, sob!) self off to do some more work and then possibly some wallpapering later!!
